It is the aim of the modern artist to give expression to his inner vision of man, to the spiritual background of life and the world.”
Quote by Aniela Jaffe,
In my work I am more interested in ways of expressing how something makes me ‘feel’ rather than solely the way it ‘looks’. Also in the way the subconscious mind interprets images. Looking at art is a subjective experience, individuals see things differently, notice different things about an image and are affected in different ways.
I have always been a ‘collector’ of interesting objects and it seemed a natural progression that found objects would become an integral part of my artwork. I now work largely in mixed media, collage and assemblage. The fragments I find from everyday life, both man-made and from nature become incorporated into my work, blurring the boundaries between art and life.
When I look for inspiration, I look to ancient history and the natural world. I am drawn to mystery and the unseen aspects of our lives and the world in which we live. I am fascinated by myths and legends, alchemy and magic. Some of my work is distinctly dark and gothic, exploring the darker aspects of our nature, along with ideas about fear, imagination, dreams and nightmares. Other work explores areas of more general interests.
If you like my work, I am able undertake commissions for personalised collages using images and belongings personal to you or objects chosen by me to fit your theme.
